Because Every Girl Needs a Swirl Dress

When was the last time you put in time and effort to put an outfit together? Including doing the hair, picking the accessories and shoes?

When I was a little kid, my mother will pull the correct clothes for us before we leave the house. There was a clear category of clothes for the home, for going to the provision shop downstairs and for going to places beyond the neighbourhood. And of course to the different occasions.

Now I see the T-shirts/tanks and shorts combination everywhere. Which some people call it the national uniform.

I think people has forgotten to dress up.

Regular shoppers at Queenbels know that we carry dresses and blouses in classic designs with unique details that last for seasons. This is what we do.

At times, I received walk-in customers who viewed the apparel that I carry is too formal.

Customer: “Where do I wear them to?”

Me: “When you go to work, on your family day, meet friends or on a date with your partner.”

Customer: “I don’t have time. I just want to throw something on quick before I leave the house.”

I sneak a quick peep (it’s very rude to stare at another person from head to toe) and very often, I see loose-fitting jerseys, shapeless blouses and in colours black, dark blue and white. Please pardon me, the impression that flashed across was, all they want is to have something to cover up their bodies, that’s all. This is such a pity, because I think they will look really pretty if they put on something else.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to dress the way you like. I only wish that they can attempt to put on apparel with more details and colours other than black, blue and white.

Chiffon Swirl Dress is one such dress that you can start with.

The highlight goes to the block colours, the slanted v on the front of the dress and an interesting detail at the back.

The block colours are made up of two separate pleated chiffon fabric, cut and sew, not printed block colours. The slanted v on the front gives a slimming silhouette.

Chiffon Swirl Dress is one easy to wear and easy to maintain dress. My experience with the chiffon dresses that I carry is, no ironing is needed after I remove the creases. I have tried and tested. After the first steam ironing, I handwash them. When it’s dry, the creases don’t come back, the pleats fall back into place and I do not need to do any steam ironing again.

Style File on Lunar New Year 2013

Before and during the Lunar New Year, I had shared snapshots of the ongoings on my home front and the outfits I put together, on our Facebook page and on Instagram (@queenbels).

I went pink this year, including a pair of pink colour shoes which I have yet share a photo of it.

You may find the Pleated Collar Ruffles Chiffon Dress foreign because I have not share any photos of this dress on the social media.

The Pleated Collar Ruffles Chiffon Dress was a complete sell-out. Every piece was sold very quickly each time I put up a new piece. I only managed to capture a snapshot of this beautiful number just before it was grabbed by a lovely regular customer.  This dress comes in pink violet and camel. I have secured a limited quantity restock for the camel colour. I hope I can do a restock on the pink violet colour too. I will keep everyone updated on the restock status on the Facebook page, so stay tuned.

What I Wore On Lunar New Year Day 3

Checks Peplum Blouse was first introduced last year at one of our mini bazaars. This pretty blouse comes in pink/white checks and blue/white checks. I couldn’t find a bottom piece that fits me so I didn’t have a chance to put on this blouse earlier. I was so happy when my favourite basic apparel store did a restock of this leggings pants in new series of colours. The shade of pink on the leggings pants is almost the same as the shade of pink on my blouse and the size fits! A restock was done on the Checks Peplum Blouse and is still available for purchase in our private showroom.

The Lunar New Year is celebrated for fifteen days. You will see me in more gorgeous Queenbels apparels for this Lunar New Year. Stay with us on our Facebook page and Instagram @queenbels for new snapshots.

When I Was Sixteen… And Now

“You must be a Literature student, or like Jane Austen very much.”

I can’t remember the exact words but these are the gist of a comment made by a lovely customer when she set her sight on our Chiffon Puff Sleeves Dress.

I have a soft spot for long skirts and dresses. When I was sixteen, I thought I would look pretty and all fairy looking like in long skirt or dress flowing along with the wind, while my mum got very worried that my long skirt or dress would get stepped on and torn when I alighted from the bus.

Picture that?

That was when I was sixteen.

Sometimes I wonder if I also wanted to look like Cinderella or Snow White subconsciously. Remember their attires in the storybooks? Long dresses with puff sleeves.

The one dress that left the deepest impression in me is a long dress with puff sleeves in mini checks that I bought at a bazaar in my teens. It has a gathered scoop neckline complete with a ribbon in the centre. I shouldn’t have clear that away from my wardrobe. I can’t find a similar dress over the years. If only mobile phones with cameras were available at that time, I will have a photo of it now.

I have pretty much bring that part of my teenage dressing dreams into adulthood and the selections I am presenting in Queenbels.

This is how the Chiffon Puff Sleeves Dress made her way into my selection. Available in colours of peach and apple green.

The clever use of smaller pleats below the neckline and bigger pleats below the bust has created the look of an empire cut, minus the cut-in below the bust. The puff sleeves are complete with gathered hems and hidden seams.

Apple green is such a refreshing and pleasing colour to the eye. If you want to start adding pastel colours to your wardrobe, this is a nice colour to begin with.

Guess what colour did I keep?

Rose Beauty

If you ask me how I decide on the designs to introduce in every selection, I will tell you it’s my feel.

I do not produce my own designs at this moment. I do have designs stored in my mind. For example, if I want to introduce a dress suitable for a wedding dinner, I will look out for details like having ruffles or embroidery, the cutting of the dress, mini or big pleats and so on.

I still very much stick to two points when acquiring new designs for the shop; classic and versatile. By now you would have notice the continuation of the above traits in the latest selection.

I have heard comments from ladies who had bought dresses for just one single function and never wear it again. Especially for annual company dinner and dance and wedding dinner. Another headache is getting a dress if you are going to be bridesmaid or brides-to-be who are buying or renting suitable dresses for their bridesmaids. I think buying that dress is definitely more worth the money if it is affordable and versatile for daily wear.

In the latest selection, I have introduced a chiffon dress that is so perfect for the bridesmaid. The gorgeous roses sewn onto the sleeves are so pretty in real life. The design and colour is so picture perfect.

I selected four colours; pink violet, cream, light orange and teal. Each colour has its own uniqueness and character, just like each individual bridesmaid.

What surprises me is, I have mothers-to-be who came looking for a dress for the coming Lunar New Year and found this Chiffon Pleats Dress with Rose Sleeves a perfect fit. The generous use of fabric to create the pleats has resulted a size suitable for the glowing mothers-to-be. They can continue to wear this dress after giving birth. This is real versatility.

So brides-to-be, if you are looking for dresses for your bridesmaids, do look at this gorgeous dress. I think it’s wonderful to give this dress to your bridesmaids and they can keep it after your wedding for fond memories.
