No One Can Say It’s Rubbish

Posted on

From time to time, we do reviews and small updates to our shop space, just to improve the shopping experience in the shop.

And I think it’s time to upgrade the flooring.

Last month, we bade goodbye to our pretty nude pink carpet after serving us for nearly three years.

Checked a few options, decided on the material and colour and placed an order. The raw materials came and we got down to work.

I am so pleased with the result and the look of the new flooring. With the lights shone on, the entire space looks really welcoming. Did a re-arrangement too to utilise the space better. See the completed flooring in my outfit snapshot.

So far the comments have been good. Customers like the feel of the interior upgrade and the new layout too. Thank you very much.

There are so much more I think I can do, to do better and I never stop thinking. To continue to learn is so important because the skills picked up can be very useful and you really never know when it will come into use.

I saw an interview of her on The Ellen Show on Youtube first. And this interview appeared on the list of videos below it.

She made alot of sense on a few areas which had me went nodding my head in agreement.

‘If you design a collection and it’s really good, people can say they don’t like it but no one can say it’s rubbish.’

First striking point that I went saying ‘Yes yes yes’. I don’t design the apparel you see in my shop. Like I have said before, they have a great inhouse team and I shall just concentrate on picking the right designs for my clients. You are right to say I am like my clients’ personal shopper.

Doesn’t design doesn’t mean I will just take whatever is available at my suppliers. I am very selective in what I pick up and I have to. I know if I really put in my heart and soul in the apparel selection process and pick the right designs for my clients, they may not like everything but they cannot say it’s rubbish. Even for the random walk-in customers, they can tell me they don’t like certain designs but they cannot say the designs are ugly. Simply because, the designs are not ugly.

It is so important to have certain standards set in the apparel design selection process.

‘Surround yourself with the right people.’

Having the right people around you is so important. People who will teach you the good things and the right ways. People who you can learn from and you can in turn share knowledge with. People who inspire you and give you the most earnest opinion.

‘Don’t leave and try to start your own company. Get out there, work for other people, learn, be a sponge, have your eyes open.’

I have been there and done that. I learnt so much in my corporate life. I was not a high flyer but I had very good mentors and co-workers. And I was very lucky to be able to work with people with high work standards and ethnics. The positive influence has impacted me in a good way.

Watch the interview. Maybe you will pick up other useful tips for yourself.

Cheers,
Shirley

Happy 50th Birthday Singapore!

Happy SG50!

Happy Golden Jubilee, Singapore!

This year, Singapore celebrates her 50th year of independence and we have been basking in the celebratory mood island-wide. Almost everywhere we go we see signs, banners, posters wishing Singapore Happy SG50. Very happy sight and I like that very much.

I am proud to be a Singaporean. There is where I was born, raised, educated, carved a career and now a place that I build a home with my husband. Because of the political stability, good domestic security and transparency of policies, Queenbels is able to start and have a chance to grow.

Thank you very much to the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew and his team, for building us this wonderful nation.

Happy Birthday Singapore!

Happy Birthday Singapore!

Happy Birthday Singapore!

I woke up earlier this morning to draw this birthday card for my country,
Singapore!

Singapore, my home, my country turns 48 years old this year. Every year on the 9th August, the whole nation will celebrate this special day and a National Day Parade will take place at The Float @ Marina Bay.

I have only this to say:

I am proud to be a Singaporean. No matter where I go, this is home truly.

Happy Birthday Singapore!

P.S. The four heart shapes signifies Queenbels’ 4th birthday this August. Queenbels is proud to be an August baby!

Cheers,
Shirley

Rush Hour

It was a crazy and stressful procurement trip. That was the shortest notice I ever got before I hopped on a plane.

The samples for 2nd quarter of 2013 were finally ready. I just have to fly there to look at the real pieces. I am extremely happy with the designs, the fabrics employed and the workmanship. The spectrum of colours is beautiful and attractive. I am keeping my fingers crossed that all the designs that I have selected, materialise.

The shipment schedule is the next challenge. The new designs may not come in big batches. If need be, new designs will be shipped as and when they are ready. So please stay with me on our Facebook page for instant updates on new arrivals.

A new selection of accessories are now in store. Bag charms are my favourite and the new bangle designs are gorgeous. I have also selected a wrap that I really like. More pictures will be posted on our Facebook page.

I have picked up all the designs that are available for restocks. However, the quantity is really scarce. Some designs are restocked with only one piece. So do grab these restocks before everything gets sold out.

Bring Your Own Shopping Bag

We kick-start the weekend with a trip to Gardens by the Bay. We are so glad that the sun is staying longer two days before. The rain made the trip impossible last weekend.

I like the Cloud Forest the most. The waterfall is really beautiful.

Before we exit the Cloud Forest, we came to this section, +5 Degrees.

The visuals of how rising temperature around our only home, Earth is affecting everyone in a very negative way. The message is very clear and strong; Saving Gaia.

I have written before how I do my part to reduce waste, do recycling and reuse old products.

One thing I always try to reduce using is paper or plastic bags, especially non-biodegradable plastic products.

The first time I introduced the ‘Bring Your Own Shopping Bag’ reward was at our first mini bazaar. I gave S$1 off the total bill if you bring your own bag for your purchases. The number of paper bags I had to use was greatly reduced.

You may think S$1 off is a tiny amount. It is not about the money, it is about doing our part to reduce waste on our only home, Earth. I think for a start, some kind of token rewards do help to encourage people to bring their own shopping bags.

Before the private showroom was officially launched, I had thought about if I should continue with the ‘Bring Your Own Shopping Bag’ reward. I have this worry that if I don’t provide paper bags, it is not good for the image of the showroom and customers may think I am trying to save on the paper bags.

The visuals that I saw at +5 Degrees reminded me again that I should restart the ‘Bring Your Own Shopping Bag’ reward.

From tomorrow onwards, if you bring your own shopping bag for your purchases at our private showroom, you will enjoy S$1 off the total bill.

A tip to help yourself start bring your own shopping bag:

Find a shopping bag that you love and in your favourite colour.

Most shopping bags are foldable, light-weight, tiny when folded and easy to carry around.

Make it a habit to include it in your essentials things to bring, just like your purse and mobile phone when you head out.
